When one graduate’s college it is usually one of the happiest days of their lives, they finally get to quit their low paying job and get a job that is much higher paying and hopefully a job they enjoy. However most of the time these newly college grads do not get to go buy a new car, or a house, or whatever else their heart desires instead; they have to spend about the next 20 years paying off their student loans. But what if there was another way, so that these newly grads do not have to spend 20 years paying off loans? Well maybe there is because in January of 2015 President Barrack Obama proposed the idea of free community college. This sounds great does it not?
But in reality, like Deborah Santiago states “...community colleges will end up with long waiting lists”, and the waiting lists don’t only include to get into the school, but as well as just to get into a class. When people hear the word “free” they immediately want to sign up but in reality don’t know what they’re getting into. When admitted into college one must attend orientation where you’re given the option to choose the classes for your major. Like the college, there are waiting lists for the classes you might need to take to stay on track, with community colleges being free, the numbers of attendance will increase dramatically which means one won’t be able to get into the classes they need or be waitlisted for those classes. Community College Tuition Should Not Be Free In the article, “As He Promotes It, Some Question Obama’s Free Community College Idea”, by Joanne Jacobs, the issue is brought up that making community college free will bring more issues than solutions. “Tuition shouldn’t be free for those who can afford to pay”, said Bezerra, a student at Rio Hondo College, a community college near Los Angeles. Making community college free will only draw in higher and mid classes and eventually push out the lower class of students attempting to get into community college. Everyone needs to pay tuition in order to benefit the rest as a whole. I agree with the reasoning that everyone needs to pay tuition.

Many people still have this stereotype that community college serves only low-income and low-class families, people in need, less gifted students for whom community college can be the last chance to get a higher education, those who for some reason can’t afford going to four-years university. There are plenty of myths surrounding community colleges around the country and these myths should be destroyed. They have very little to do with the reality. It’s unfortunate that community college suffer from such poor public image, when in fact plenty of people with Bachelor’s degree would be just better off going to community college. The reason for that is that so many students at community colleges nowadays already have their bachelors in a field they were not able to find a job in; so they are back to school again pursuing more valuable associate’s degree.
Free tuition has been a controversial topic for many years. Governor Cuomo sees free tuition as a positive impact on society and the youth: those whose families do not have a lot of money to use towards a higher education. In Cuomo’s words, “in this economy, you need a college education if you're going to compete” (New York governor proposes free tuition at state colleges). Giving free tuition to low income families would increase the education rate after high school, increase job opportunities for thousands of people, and lower the debt percentage. Families earning an annual income of $125,000 or less could acquire tuition free college at two or four year community schools.
With free tuition there will be more students and they will be able to get the education they want. People do not seem to understand that not everyone is as rich or as wealthy as them! People should think more about poor people who cannot afford college tuition fees and what kind of education they can get with the small amounts of money they are
Students who attend top-notch universities have access to meal plans that fit in with their financial aid, while students that attend community colleges do not have the ability to have financial assistance when they purchase food from a cafeteria, which leaves many students hungry and struggling with their academic standing and overall well-being. We don’t need to be giving more money to the rich we need to be taking money from the rich to start helping out the poor more. Free college would cost a lot of money and the money has to come from somewhere. If America somehow changed and moved to a tuition free college where would we get the money from? As stated before, the proposal creates more job opportunities which encourage economic growth. In addition to the great aid the proposal offers economically, it also offers vast social prosperity. Many of the people attending community college are very ambitious and are very affable. The environment in a community college is very sociable which advocates a better education.
If college can be free, more students would go to school and to get a higher degree for themselves. Then after graduating college without debt, students can be able to think about their own life such as doing business, buying house, etc. Also a better - educated population can make positive effect on the society.
