Pros And Cons Of Gas Hydrates

981 Words4 Pages

Introduction
Gas hydrates also known as clathrates have been known for about 200 years. For over 60 years they have been studied by oil and gas industries. According to (Cranganu and Nitzov), It wasn’t until about 18 years ago many publication companies covered articles about the potential energy sources they could be as well as Characterization, Carbon Sequestration, geophysics, and Global climate changes. Over the recent years it’s been a high demand for finding new sources of energy that were more sustainable as well as powerful. Well we found gas hydrates and with this its many pros as well as cons to opening up the use of it in the world. In this paper we will get into the formation, locations, as well as the environmental and economic …show more content…

Based upon current allegations and the different fragments to this subject the Government would need more supportive and sustainable evidence to prove that it has something to do with climate change. We still cannot find evidence to help us understand the Exhibit of the reservoirs and earths climate. The subject is much larger than an excuse of not being able to find funding to do production and the current oil prices, Its much more deeper than that. More put together plans and research should be put together before exploiting this resource even more than it already is. According to (Dr. R K Malhotra), if we were to exploit the gas hydrates it would be just like exploiting natural gas in to the atmosphere Creating CO2 upon combustion but in lesser amounts, lesser useful energy generated than coal or oil. Which are 2 big pros that would benefit the earth by less co2 that causes the greenhouse effect on the environment. Not only will it provide more useful energy sources helping the environment, this also means that potentially we can increase productivity for economic growth, as well as the benefits of energy security (Beaudoin). The cons about exploiting this energy source may be that we may rupture the ground surface and destroy the structure of the earth. Not only that but its may cause the plates to move and separate. Not to mention the possible leaks that may occur. Most if not all marine animals will die off as well as life on earth because if production goes wrong the water on the earth will not only be tainted in that part of the world but it will eventually
