Although many taxpayers may oppose the idea of government assistance due to people taking advantage of the funding system, in actuality it helps people prosper. According to The Nation, the population survey shows approximately 15 percent of Americans stand at or below the poverty line (around 46 million people). In order to simply survive on a daily basis, some Americans rely on the government's assistance programs such as SNAP, social security and earned income tax. Taxpayers mainly oppose the idea of financial assistance because the money comes out of their pockets and into someone else's, It's a forced charity. Federal income tax provides many citizens with more opportunity to raise healthier children and helps people achieve long-term goals. People who are eligible to receive federal income tax are able to provide their infants with more nutritious foods and with more clothes, diapers, bottles, and other utensils that are needed to raise a healthy newborn. Children are less likely to have early illnesses and disabilities in life due to the use of tax returns. They are more likely able to have underlying diseases which can be unnoticed because of the lack of resources since they do not have much money to pay for doctor's appointment, medication etc. Income tax allows many Americans to achieve their goals. Many Americans rely on federal income tax to pay for college. People in poverty who receive a tax return are more likely to send their children to college and/or go to college themselves. Providing Americans with this opportunity can eventually lead to a decreased poverty rate. As these individuals become more educated, better job opportunities will arise allowing people who were in poverty to prosper and create a finer
