“Legalizing Prostitution: An Open Door For Sex Trafficking” “Throughout the world, there are seven times more shelters for abused animals than for victims of slave trafficking” (Cacho 248). In the book Slavery Inc: the untold story of international sex trafficking, Lydia Cacho describes the statistic stated above. Sadly, many people do not know about the international sex trade that happens in every country in the world and the many women and girls stuck in it. Sex Trafficking and the overall human trafficking, is a form of slavery, even though slavery itself has been legally abolished throughout the world the practice still happens. Slavers, know as traffickers or pimps, ensnare women and girls into the business by offering honorable jobs, such as waitressing or singing and then force them into becoming prostitutes. The women, some just young girls, are coerced out of their homes in hopes of getting out of poverty and having a good job. But, the whole problem of legalizing prostitution could be avoided if the time was dedicated to helping people in poverty, working towards lowering abuse by police and military worldwide and helping to fund organizations that help victims of slave trafficking like what is done for abused animals. As stated by Rosenstein in his article called “Getting Tough on Sex Traffickers.”, the acknowledgment of trafficking is the start of making progress to fix this massive problem, as this year President Trump has declared January National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month (Rosenstein). Globally, citizens and lawmakers can work together to create organizations to help victims of human trafficking and work towards stopping pimps and
