There are so many possibilities of Mars colonization. This is because advancements have been made to get humans closer to Mars (not literally). As said by NASA Administrator Charles Bolden: “NASA is closer to sending American astronauts to Mars than at any point in our history,” (Schierholz). Essentially, he’s saying that they’ve been working on Mars tests and it’s been going REALLY well. He said this because, From a world-class microgravity laboratory [owned by NASA], they are testing technologies and advancing human health and performance research that will enable deep space, long duration missions, and they’re getting closer! Another thing going great for NASA is the fact that they build on what they learn about the space station and in …show more content…
This is because the journey to Mars crosses three thresholds, each with increasing challenges as humans move farther from Earth. This is confirmed by my article when it says: “[NASA] identify the technological and operational challenges in three categories: transportation being the biggest, sending humans and cargo through space efficiently, safely, and reliably; working in space, enabling productive operations for crew and robotic systems; and staying healthy, developing habitation systems that provide safe, healthy, and sustainable human exploration. Bridging these three categories are the overarching logistical challenges facing crewed missions lasting up to 1,100 days and exploration campaigns that span decades.” (Schierholz). Basically, the article is trying to say that transportation is nearly IMPOSSIBLE at the moment. Also, NASA can’t operate with their current system to reach such deep space. This is supported by the text when it says: “NASA also will need to learn new ways of operating in space, based on self-reliance and increased system reliability.” (Schierholz). In this quote, the article is proving the previous point, their current system will not be compatible. In conclusion, since there are so many setbacks and limitations in Mars colonization, it will be hard to get a man on
