Insurance for low income families who require long term care. Different parts of Medicaid pays for different types of things like, prescription drugs, or facilitation for the elders. Define Medicare: For older and some who are younger with disabilities who qualify for it, with a permanent disability. Spending down: " A procedure that requires an individual to spend enough income resources to qualify for Medicaid eligibility." In order to qualify for one to be a customer of Medicaid they require the client or children to Spending down ones assets that they could just get rid of to save the money for insurance. While what they are doing is completely ethical is does not make it right. People who do not have the best health insurance, one that has low income and the best insurance they can afford has to suffer from substandard care. Which is unacceptable what these people got rid of some assets in order to receive care in a nursing home or at home. However people should always have a 2nd insurance company and not relying on Medicaid to take care of all the expenses. What some are not told is that different parts of Medicaid is different coverages that’s including prescriptions, nursing homes, or in home care, hospital care, and is goes on and on. I agree with having Medicaid but I do not agree completely with their rules and regulations. I do agree with their intent to help that Medicaid has. Having their descendants or the client or loved ones to spend down to have to pay for their long term. The point of cutting down "extra" expenses in order to pay for something you cannot help. I mean these people are already low income and so what if they want to do something that they enjoy or what to leave to their children they have to get rid of making it difficult to leave to their children. I would not say its unethical but it’s a bit out of hand. Some of the money should be government funding. Some of these are injured vets, people who served our country. They are taxpayers too. Doing what needs to be done is sometimes the only way. If Medicaid goes unchecked it will bankrupt the system. To lose a lot to receive substandard care is unethical, being treated differently because you have low income and need some help is unnecessary. From self-experience I have noticed that if you have Medicaid your care will be poor. Patients have said that nurses have not cleaned or changed their bandages in four days to a week, saying they will be out and do not come. I have heard that doctors will just shrug them off and call them back if they call and its urgent and they request to speak with a Medical Doctor. Patients of Medicaid are being treated poorly for being more poor than someone who makes 50,000 a year and
