Pros and Cons of use of PEDs in sports

Currently using Performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) in any level of sports is prohibited and has never really been considered to be anything different. On a topic like this there are usually more cons than pros which is pretty easy to tell as PEDs are banned from every single professional sports leagues here in America, some of those include the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, and the PGA. Some pros would include improved performance and some health benefits that go along with that. To counter that some of the cons are that those PEDs have resulted in long term health problems and unfair advantages in those sports and ruins the integrity of sports in general. There are some sports fan out there that would love to see PEDs used in sports because it would make them more interesting and exciting. A sport like the MLB which is slow moving and sometimes can be considered flat out boring. Would allowing the athletes to use PEDs in the MLB make the game more exciting? Results like faster pitching, more home runs, and more run in general would be the result. To some that sounds like a blast and would be more likely to attend a game. Look at just some simple numbers from the MLB, Barry Bonds a former MLB player hit 73 home runs in one season was caught for using PEDs, but he hit the most home runs ever in a single season. Last year Mark Trumbo led the league in home run with just 47, that’s a pretty big difference. Just by looking at those number alone show how much more home runs can be hit if they are allowed to use PEDs, but is scoring more runs and faster pitching really improving the game or is it just …show more content…

Also the argument that wants PEDs make it sound like PEDs will 100% guarantee that improvement will happen with your performance. The deductive reasoning kind of goes like this; PEDs improve athletes’ performance, better performances means a better/more exciting game, Therefor PEDs are good for sports. I would have to say that a reasoning like that would have to be invalid because if one team dominates the other team because they more PEDs, would that really make the game better? Plus, the conclusion is quite vague and a wide open question. I also believe that it would be a weak reasoning both of the premises are not necessarily true. There is no guarantee that PEDs improve the performance of the athlete and that it would better the game so it would make it a weak
