Police brutality has been a raging topic ever since the Ferguson case and officers using excessive force can be stopped by using body cameras to see a cops’ every move. In the article, “Body Cameras Will Stop Police Brutality”, the author brings to concern issues of excessive force to subdue a suspect. The author comments, “Having a video record of events not only deters the use of excessive force, but it also helps dispute or demonstrate claims of police brutality” (Body Cameras Will Stop Police Brutality 1). Having a video recording of an event can save a police officer's job or destroy it. By being a cop who follows the rules and does the right thing, an officer will not have to change his or her behaviors and will continue being himself or herself.
Hazards of Police Pursuits Police pursuits consist of a fleeing suspect, an officer and many innocent bystanders. Although we cannot alter the actions made by those fleeing suspects during a pursuit; changes as to how they are pursued can be made. The innocent bystanders and officers become victims of this pursuit by having their lives put in danger. The officer essentially creates hazards during the pursuit with his speed, emotions involved and lack of training. Fleeing suspects are not concerned with the safety of others or themselves, therefore they travel at high speeds which evidently calls for the officer to do the same.
Body Cameras on Police Officers There are pro and cons to police officers wearing body cameras. In light of all the recent killings caused by the law, concern of the safety of both the authority figures and the public have caused the issue of there being a mandatory law that officers should have to wear body cameras at all time and make sure they are turned on whenever they are to interact with the public. Most recently there has been a plethora of killings of unarmed young minorities just for the simple reasoning that they looked "suspicious" or "they seemed like they were up to no good". The reason many states would like to put the law that every officer should be mandated to wear body cameras into place will be for the purpose of being able to record any interaction that an officer has with a person of the public.
