Justice is supposed to be blind. However, that blindness comes at a price that not everyone can afford. The public defense system is negatively affecting indigent criminal defendants who cannot afford an attorney. The Public Defender's office states that many of these attorneys have insufficient resources and inadequate oversight, which makes it difficult for attorneys to represent these criminal defendants. Due to the fact that there are limited resources available for indigent criminal defendants, many will suffer injustice at the hands of the attorneys who are supposed to ensure defendants’ constitutional rights to a fair trial, and to due process and equal protection under the law. Lack of access to research puts many public defenders' clients at a disadvantage and may even result in their cases being lost. Unlike private defense attorneys, public defenders might not have the resources to collaborate with specialists or employ private detectives, which would effectively provide them with the assistance they need to win their cases. The public defense system has failed many indigent criminal defendants. Therefore, due to the lack of resources available for these defendants, many of them have been in jail for a long period of time. Many defendants don't have the necessary money to be able to pay for an attorney, which is why a public defender is provided to them. However, oftentimes public defenders are not. As reliable as they are seen, some lack resources which could hurt the client’s case or trial. This is a huge disadvantage for the defendants because this could negatively impact the outcome of their case. Other evidence shows that public defenders are not always the best since they have a lot of cases to handle so they could be less focused on the defendant's case. The public defense system has failed many indigent criminal
