A railroad is an intersection where a roadway crosses a railroad track. These crossings can be very dangerous especially if you don’t know how to proceed at one. After reading the slide and watching the videos provided, I found some precautions that you can take when around trains. People often duck under cross guards, take shortcuts, or just don’t pay attention to their surrounding when trains are involved. Trains often cannot slow down quick enough to avoid hitting people, and the damage is evident. Some obvious things we can do to lessen the number of people getting injured is avoid walking on the train tracks, even if there is no train coming at that time. Never stop on the train tracks, stopping only allows for more danger to ensue. If your car stalls while you are on a track you should get everyone out and away from the tracks even if you cannot see a train at this time. You should also always be aware of special vehicles that you may encounter at train tracks. Bicyclists, motorcyclists, busses, and cars carrying a large load all must come to a complete stop at train tracks, and you should leave plenty of room for them to stop. One thing you should remember about trains, is that they are often faster and closer than they appear, this is important because if you try to race across the tracks while a train is coming the result could be deadly or fatal. Another thing to remember is that distractions can cause a huge problem. A simple thing like taking out your headphones, or pulling off your hood could be potentially your life saver. Another thing to remember is that just like when you are crossing the street, you look both ways. Just because a train does not look like it is coming right now, does not mean that another train could be coming the opposite
