Sam Houston was a fighting soldier, he is popular for putting his hard work and dedication into making the state Texas into the United States as a constituent state. Sam worked and fought so hard, he was considered the father of Texas. His commitment and continuous labor along with his men conquered Mexican General Antonio López de Santa Anna in the Battle at San Jacinto to lock in the independence of Texas from Mexico. He put so much effort into Texas that he performed duties as the senator and Governor after Texas became a state in 1845. Houston spent most of his time growing up in Tennessee, then went to Cherokee country.
Houston was adopted by Cherokee Indians and spent most of his teenaged life with them (10). He even received a calling name Co-lo-neh, the raven, from Cherokee (29). Crisp believed that Houston who made a quality friendship with Indians would not disrespect them in the speech at Refugio. In addition, Houston refused to take an oath of allegiance to the confederacy at 1861, even though as a result, he needed to sacrifice his position in Texas Government (11). This fact justified that Houston strongly opposed the slavery and white supremacy.
When Brown was 55 he moved with his sons to Kansas territory after the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 overrode the Missouri Compromise, which resulted in the strict ban of slavery above a certain latitude. This was a huge deal to both pro-slavery and anti-slavery fighters for before this act was passed the United States only consisted of twenty-two states which were divided among the two groups of fighters. Winning this territory for slavery, or for those against it, could really make a statement. During the settling of Kansas the events of violent acts that occurred during the period (1855) is referred to as “Bleeding Kansas”. Violence pursued throughout the year 1855.

Crisp we are faced with some surprising truths about the Texas Revolution as he draws attention to many facilities that have been said to be truths over the years. These facts are often covered by tales of racism and political correctness. Over the course of this engrossing interpretation of the Texas Revolution this historian works like a detective to bring light to the more difficult truths behind all the tales that many believe. I believe James E. Crisp’s thesis to be fairly straightforward. This historian wishes to bring truth to the light.
. Sam Houston was born in Virginia on March 2, 1793. He was a husband, father, soldier, lawyer, a congressman from Tennessee, Governor of Tennessee, he was a drunk, adopted Cherokee, major general of the Texas Army, President of the Republic of Texas, Texas Representative, and a Senator from Texas. One of the biggest roles he played in his life time was being governor of Texas around 1859 till 1861. He participated in the War of 1812, he was involved in Tennessee politics.
He was selfish, he took land that rightfully belonged to the Indians and didn 't feel guilty about it. The battle he is known best for is the battle of New Orleans, he won the battle but that battle was not necessary. He was a sore loser, when he didn 't win president the first time around he accused Adams of corruption. When he became president he wanted to get rid of paper money, he hated it. Think about it for a minute, if he hated paper money, why should he be on it?
Ethical Leader Sam Houston was an ethical leader in his actions to defend Texas against Mexico. Sam Houston moved to Texas in 1832 while Texas was still North Mexico (Campbell, 2007). He spent the next thirteen years fighting and championing for Texas statehood. Sam’s use of ethical leadership trait of potential harm dilemma while using critical thinking, specifically reflective thinking saved the military men under his control and ultimately won the battle against Mexico. Thomas N. Barnes Center for Enlisted Education [BCEE](2017) defines potential harm in ethical leadership lesson as “an ethical dilemma stemmed from potential harm caused by a decision you made”(BCEE, 2017c, p. 6).
Therefore, he decided to live as part of a native tribe the Cherokee were Oo-loo-te-ka accepted him as an adoptive son he admired the Cherokee and paid them respects for their admirable form of living. Jacksonian Democracy Andrew Jackson was the cause for thousands of American Indian’s deaths. A good democracy has equal rights, an educated leader and voters, peace/stability, and a strong leader. It also has voting rights, the power in the hands of the people and checks and balances. Someone who promotes democracy will take both sides into consideration before making a decision. Someone who thinks about what his/her actions would do to the group as a whole and not just a fraction of the group.
This source has significant value to historians but, like any other source, has its limitations. Andrew Jackson’s motivation to remove the Cherokee from their homeland originated from an avid persona to benefit the Americans. The speech analyzes Jackson’s motivation, and specific plans to remove the Cherokee. In consideration of the speech being written in 1830, the audience can learn how Jackson was rather harsh towards the natives in order to benefit himself and others. This is evident with Andrew Jackson’s actions and his presumptions of the Natives.
Jay Erskine Leutze came to speak to us today about his book, Stand Up That Mountain and his experiences growing and living in the mountains of North Carolina where he was able to call Belview Mountain his very own backyard. He is basically a conservationist who made a huge effort to save and preserve what we know as much of the Appalachian wilderness that happens to be one of the most beautiful sights on the east coast. I feel as though his book showed several different messages but I believe that one of the biggest points that he added onto at the convocation was the fact that realizing who you are and realizing the importance of the world and environment and creatures around you is the only way to truly understand everything around you. There are many small battles that have to be one before you can win a war and Mr. Leutze demonstrated this
Lawrence, Kansas was looted and burned by pro-slavery settlers. In response, John Brown and his anti-slavery followers captured and brutally hacked five pro-slavery men to death. Again, the pro-slavery settlers won and anti-slavery settlers charged them with fraud a second time. At the end of the third election, anti-slavery settlers outnumbered the pro-slavery settlers and Kansas was admitted to the Union as a free state.
