The contrasts of physical surroundings and learning environment, bring me a realization of how schools can be so different between the poor, minority-race children and wealthy, white children. Charter schools are independent schools that receives government funding. Unlike public schools, they operate privately.
Charter schools are a different type of school that is helpful to some students but not all. What a charter school is, they are privately managed, taxpayer funded schools which are made up from the community. However charter schools are not like private schools they are in fact outlined after public schools. Charter schools are for students who want to achieve a high level education. The schools are open to all children, they don’t charge tuition and there are no special requirements for them to attend.
You would not think that charter schools would replace public schools. I went to a charter school, when I was in the seventh grade and I feel that charter schools are nothing to talk about. “Charter schools are tax supported public schools.” They can be started by anyone, if the school board approves it. If the school board approves the charter, they would need to get a budget started and hire teachers and start a curriculum.
First, the charter school is funded by the local, state and the school does follow the same rules of the public school. Some of the rules include: length day for students 6 and half hours daily and five days a week; students school year days should total 180 days; teacher should be license teacher; child must be at least 5 years old to attend kindergarten; student’s attendance records must be kept on file; student’s school records and reports must keep on file, and confidently; child’s parents or legal guardians must register the child; and students must follow the school’s absence policy (Rules Of The State Board Of Education, 2008). The potentially positive outcomes of school choice would be 1) Vouchers improve public schools: Vouchers give parents the right to choose the right school, the right education system for their child. The cost of college tuition is an enormous problem now days. For a long time, the subject never got brought up and today things are changing. Students study hard and try their best to get that college acceptance letter from their dream college. Students all around the world are struggling with college debt and trying their hardest to receive those so-called ‘perfect’ grades. Acceptance of the voucher is best based solely on the grounds of religious freedom. In the United States we believe of Freedom of Worship and that all people have the right to worship wherever and however they choose. On the other hand, I would have to reject the entire concept of the school vouchers because I do not and cannot support the idea of non-religious individuals having to pay taxes for religious teachings and practices. The way our education system is set up right now it caters to no race, religion, or ethical background but instead provides an equal opportunity education for our youth to have an adequate chance at survival in the world we live in today.
