C Should Standardized Testing Determine A Students Success?

Standardized test should not determine a student’s mastery of a subject. Test have proven to cause stress on teachers, students, and are unfair to everyone involved.. Standardized test are bad for schools, teachers, and students.
One reason why standardized test don't determine a students success is because it's unfair to judge a students whole year on one day of performance. For example, kids have test anxiety, “ about 16-20% of students have high test anxiety…. Another 18% are troubled by moderately high test anxiety.”(Driscoll, Richard, “whos afraid of the big bad test”, in our children: the national PTA Magazine. 29, 6 april/may,2004,p.7.) if about 20% of kids have test anxiety that means at least one fifth of kids taking a standardized test are already at an disadvantage. Test anxiety is serious and not the only consideration. What about the kid who has family issues or who didn't get a good nights of sleep. I interviewed two retired teachers, one stated “ Since a teacher’s success is based on how well their students do on standardized tests, it takes time away from teaching students essential skills like public speaking or decision making.” (Mcknight, George personal interview. March 2018). The other retired teacher explained ” Teachers will teach to the test when they know their job is at risk if they don't meet expectations set by administration.” (Mcknight, Pua personal interview. March 2018) Due to these reasons, teachers aren't able to spend the amount of time needed teaching the most important skills to their
