Colin, who had never done this before or has ever protested against this before, sparked controversy around the country because people thought it was rude, controversial, a stunt and irresponsible use of his power with his fans. Since then Colin has joined protests against this and other big time and small players have since kneeled or sat down during the solute.
It makes me proud when I see the American flag flying in the sky, makes us honor our heroes and sports stars, and it makes us remember the people who fought for the independence of our country. The flag flies tall and proud in so many places across America, the world, and even on the moon. Today, one hundred fifty million flags that are sold per year. The American flag brings together Americans as one united nation. “The American flag, Old Glory, standing tall and flying free over American soil for 228 years is the symbol of our beloved country.
Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback of the San-Francisco 49ers, chose not to stand for the National Anthem at a recent National Football League game. Instead, he decided to express his unhappiness with the way African Americans are being treated by police, by kneeling to the ground. This was his form of protest and attempt to convey his message about how he felt. Kaepernick does have the right to not stand for the National Anthem, however, it is disrespectful. People fight for our freedom, so why disrespect those men and women and an NFL game was not the right time or place to hold his protest.
Colin told the media the reason that he did not stand for the national anthem was because he refused to stand for a country that oppresses black people. Colin Kaepernick also stated, "To me, this is bigger than football, and it would be selfish on my part to look the other way. There are bodies in the street, and people getting paid leave, and getting away with murder”. The 49ers then issued a statement about Colin Kaepernick's decision stating, "The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect on the great liberties we are afforded as its citizens.
In August 2016, was Kaepernick’s first time sitting on the bench during the National Anthem. He stated, “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” Kaepernick has every right to exercise his right to freedom of speech, and express his views on the challenges the nation is facing as far as racism, violence, and poverty. Kneeling during the national anthem is completely irrelevant to the problem trying to be addressed. It only has caused disruption and arguments. People supporting the cause believe they are being treated unfairly in some way, but if you ask anyone, any group, or minority, they’re going to tell you how they’re being treated
Should someone be locked up for burning the American Flag? Yes, because the American represents unity and freedom between all 50 states. Most of the U.S. may have become emotional, because of what happened to the flag. Desecrating an American Flag was a criminal offense in Texas, as it was under federal law and in 48 of the 50 states. Football players should stand for the national anthem for the soldiers, to help unify America, and to find another way to protest. First of all, football players should stand for our soldiers. Our soldiers have fought for our country and they fight for our flag.

This original flag consisted of thirteen stars in a circle representing the thirteen states at the time. Betsy Ross sewed this during the American Revolution. The processes and steps that were taken to create the United States Flag, figuratively helped sew our country together by creating a sense of strength and unity.
