Throughout the years, the study of stem cells and their benefits to treating diseases and helping with the recovery of terminally ill patients has given the rise to many new discoveries as well as a downfall as to their true purpose and where the line is crossed. Stem cells are used within the body to repair infected or damaged organs or cells in hopes of increasing the chance of survival of the individual. There are reasons to believe that stem cell therapy may or may not cure diseases, but with the studies and experiments being conducted they seem to rule out one another in a back and forth method. Embryonic cells are derived from embryos (Stem Cell Basic). However they are not from egg’s fertilized from a woman’s body. The embryonic cells are in vitro in a vitro fertilization clinic. This simply means that the egg and sperm are united in a laboratory rather than in a woman’s body (Stem Cell Basic). Adult stem cells are cells that are undifferentiated. They are basically cells that have not developed into a specific cell type (Stem Cell Research). They are very important because the cells can renew themselves and maintain and repair damaged tissue (Stem Cell Research). The third types of stem cells are known as Induced Pluripotent stem cells. These types of cells are capable of reprogramming themselves to any human cell needed for therapeutic purposes (Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells). All three types of cells could be useful in the future. Researchers believe that stem cells do have a potential of curing and treating diseases.
