So, in conclusion the number of murders committed grew as the numbers of executions were reduced. Abolitionists claim that one of the alternatives to the death penalty is life in prison without parole. I don’t think this alternative is good deterrent because the criminal can ask for appeals and as we all know laws can change. Take the James Moore case in New York State for example. It was ruled that McDuff would be put to death by the means of the electric chair, a sentence that was overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court due to the abolishment of capital punishment in 1972. In 1989 the Texas prisons were dealing with the overflow of prisoners, due to this Kenneth McDuff was released onto the unsuspecting public. After only a couple of days of his release a naked body of a woman was found, beaten, strangled and dumped in a field near Temple, the body was later identified as Sarafia Parker a prostitute. McDuff's was jailed again for a short while for a racial incident and was released again 1990. In early 1991McDuff enrolled at Texas State Technical College in Waco. Ater his enrollment there Central Texas prostitutes began disappearing. Valencia Joshua was one of the prostitutes found dead in a shallow grave in the woods behind the college. She was last seen alive Feb. 24, 1991. Her body was found decomposing and naked. Another of the missing women was Regenia Moore, she was last seen kicking and screaming in the back of McDuff's pickup truck. Colleen Reed was another woman who disappeared from an Austin car wash.
