Joyce Meyer, a Christian author once spoke, “If you can help a child, you don’t have to spend years repairing an adult.” Often times social issues are overlooked if an individual is not directly affected by them. As a result of this, a program that gets forgotten about is the foster care system. The idea of the system is to put abused children in safe homes for a brief period of time until their original home is pronounced safe again or if they get the opportunity to be adopted. However, the foster care system is broken. The system's entire foundation is cracked, leaving permanent problems with temporary solutions. Childhelp.org reported that, “Every year more than 3 million reports of child abuse are made in the United States involving more than 6 million children (a report can include multiple children). The United States has one of the worst records among industrialized nations – losing on average between four and seven children every day to child abuse and neglect.” https://www.childhelp.org/child-abuse-statistics/ Most of these children are going unreported because they are too afraid of what is going to happen to them. If the foster care system is redesigned and made more efficient and positive, children would not have to fear their lives everyday by their abusive parent or guardian. Changing the system structure is going to change the outlook of Foster Care. Children will call for help on a phone, rather than in their bedroom closet. All kids who come from a tragic situation or an abusive home are more prone to a negative life in the future. The Foster Care system has gone neglected for such a long time that there is no way to repair it with temporary fixes, the only way to help the children is to redesign the entire foundation of the program and essentially what Foster Care stands for.
