Why was the Mexican Revolution important to the United States? The United States involvement helped end dictatorship in Mexico by being against President Huerta, by not recognizing the Mexican government,and invading Veracruz. The Mexican Revolution occurred between 1910 and 1920. Men like Emiliano Zapata and Pancho Villa fought for the end of Dictator Porfirio Diaz, and General Huerta. The involvement of the United States and revolutionists helped put an end to dictatorship in Mexico.

Huerta had a strict military dictatorship which made the United States against the Mexico Government. Pres. Woodrow Wilson wanted Huerta to step aside for democratic elections. In 1913, Wilson put an arms embargo on Mexico. Which means Mexico could not buy any weapons from the United States. Huerta had …show more content…

learned that the SS Ypiranga, a German steamer, was about to deliver weapons and munitions to the Mexican government at Veracruz in violation of the arms embargo that the U.S. had instituted—compelled Wilson to order the U.S. military to seize the port.¨ (Britannica.com) On April 21, 1914 the navy had a fleet at the port of Veracruz. The port of Veracruz was easy to take because there was no resistance, but the invasion of the city was not so easy because the army and untrained citizens would resist the invasion. U.S forces were able to take complete control of the city. And occupying it for 6 months. Not only did troops invade the city of Veracruz, but it stopped Huerta from getting his ammunition and guns. ¨By July 1914, the Constitutionalists under Carranza were able to take over the government, and Huerta was forced into exile. The U.S. Marines occupying the city were finally withdrawn in November.¨ (Britannica.com) With the U.S invasion going on, private mexican armies were also fighting Huerta´s forces.
