Our Military’s Biggest Support Amelia Earhart, Susan B. Anthony, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Helen Keller are just some of the very proactive woman in the United States History; there are so many other women that have given all citizens freedom, yet their names are still not known to most people. These women are people such as Lori Ann Piestewa, Melissa J. Hobart, and Jessica L. Cawvey (Neumayr 24). They are names that no one knows except for family and friends. These spectacular women made the choice to fight and die for Americas freedom. At this time in Americas history women can serve, but there are so many more restrictions and regulations put on them. These restrictions make it harder for women to join the armed forces. Having these extra obstacles makes it look like the government doesn’t truly want women to serve; but women should be allowed an equal chance. This is the place where you gain the physical strength and discipline that is needed when in combat. This is also where “women aren’t encouraged to establish the same mental toughness as men, rather, they’re told that they can’t compete. Men, meanwhile, are encouraged to perceive women as weak” (Eden 39). Since so many men have given women boosts like extra steps to climb a wall or longer to complete a run, these women have begun to not contract the physical skills that are needed for combat. As more and more women begin to be a part of combat their performances have strengthened with the greater numbers. Although it does not take great numbers for a single solider to show great valor. Especially in the most recent combat situation in Afghanistan and Iraq women have been serving competently with men (Cordes 1).
