The National Labor Relation Act, the Labor Management Relations Act, and the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act are some of the most significant federal laws governing unions (Workplace Fairness). The National Labor Relation Act, promises basic rights for private sectors employees to organize unions to engage in bargaining with the ability to strike, however, the law excludes managers and supervisors (Workplace Fairness). The Taft-Hartley Act was passed to limit the power of unions employees. The Labor Management reporting and Disclosure Act ensures a standard code of conduct for union representatives such as officers. In the USA, each state has their own laws governing unions, however, the National Labor Relations Act has specific provisions that allow states to pass laws concerning the union (Workplace Fairness). To start a union, representatives for the employee must complete an application with National Labor Relations Act and in the application information must explain who will be represented and why. The employer is notified and given a chance to respond and if the company protest the application request then it’s the discretion of NLRB (Workplace Fairness).
