There are many considerable factors that go into buying a car: the amount of comfort the car is able to provide, gas mileage, whether or not it’s family friendly, and, most importantly for some people, the level of technology the car posessess. In this day and age, high-tech has engulfed the minds of Despite our technology being as advanced as it could be, society is not ready, nor capable of handling such things like autonomous driving. It presents dangers and flaws within its technology that have already harmed innocent people The History of Autonomous Vehicles The road to fully autonomous vehicles started long before we even realized. Easing the lives of drivers began with cars being equipped with blind spot detection, automated braking, …show more content…
While it is easy to blame the CEOs of companies producing autonomous vehicles, they are not the only ones at fault. The manufacturers and programmers are the ones promising to put their best efforts into its technology, however, it is clear that they have not. The crashes involving autonomous vehicles have all been because of its flawed technology and faulty programming (Lin). Since the car itself is not driven by an actual person, its movements are determined by the hardware that controls the car. The failed programming of the sensors has led to autonomous vehicles not being able to detect a pedestrian walking which is exactly what happened to the woman in Arizona. If the programmers are not held responsible, they may never fix this issue (Lin). For example, due to a liability issue, improving the brakes on these cars have stalled because no one has taken the blame for their malfunction (Garza). Innocent people have been injured or killed due to the imperfections within the cars system; if those were caught or fixed soon, all those people could have been …show more content…
The Government is currently working on what limitations and laws they need to set for self-driving cars in order to satisfy protesters (Geistfeld). However, some parts seem to be split on what to do. One part wants to dismiss them from having to follow regular car guidelines and standards, but doing that allows the companies involved in autonomous driving to put riskier bits into the car (Wakabayashi). Certain politicians would choose profitability over public safety which is backed by those wanting autonomous car companies to be dismissed from any
