We have come a far way to be here. There is more technology and respect, but there are some disadvantages of getting this far. When we see how far we have gotten, we don’t think about how we got here. Not that many people see what others in the past had to go through, but these events help us. In the 1980’s there were important events that shaped our world. On March 26, 1982 the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was built. It was a time to honor what had happened. In this event we can learn from our past, that we should always think about our past to learn about the future, to exceed and improve, that we should accomplish our goal. People take time to admire and honor the names that are written on there. Before they could put the wall up with so much meaning there was a fund that had to happen to raise money to build the wall. There was a fund called Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, Inc (VVMF). There was about $8,000,000 raised most were from companies, unions, and foundations. More than 275,000 individuals Americans donated a lot of the money that was needed. The goal was that the nation would help out these soldiers to get the honor they deserve. ‘’VVMF wanted Vietnam veterans to have a tangible symbol of recognition from the American people,’’Said VVMF president. VVMF was a way to get people to help. So that every would feel a little better and that the families would feel that there were always people thinking of them. Thanks to the help they were able to build the wall and put all those names on it. It was a great time when we knew that people were with us and would help people that weren’t. How can we succeed if we don’t pay attention to what’s going on, or what has happened. We can’t learn from the past. All we have seen, and developed comes from ideas, and achievements from the past. Our past is so important not just, because we can learn from it, but because there has been sacrifices for us. We need to acknowledge that just because we weren’t there doesn’t mean we shouldn't care. Both the Vietnam War Memorial, and Sally Ride have one thing in common. It’s that they all worked hard to get were we are. The money earned was a big deal. One because so many people a gave some to help change the past of being forgotten. Two is that it was a great amount that was significant to make the wall get built. Sally Ride was an important person, cause not everyone gets fly in space specially if your a woman. She was the first and set so many records. Not just that got awards. Influence so many young and old. She is still know around the United States.
