Crime In Embacadere

One of the most prominent crime that affects the youths in my community is domestic violence. Understand that Embacadere is a very small community made up of individual dwelling units and apartments in high rise buildings being managed by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). Some of the units are rented while other are owned but by more senior residents who lived in the community for many years. With that being said, there are many matriarchal single parent households within the community whose partner are visitors or they have “friending relationships’. In most cases, those ‘friending relationship’ exist with partners form both within and outside of the community.

It is almost always the first response of the justice system to imprison youths when they commit a crime or to send them to a home for delinquent youths and once they have served their time release them back into society without any form of rehabilitation. The report made this point clear by saying that “sentencing policies should be reviewed and revised in order to promote alternative punishments and minimize the use of incarceration for all but the most serious offenders.” (UNDP, 2012, p. 26) Therefore, I believe that if current policies and laws are reviewed by law makers and practitioners in the criminal justice system form a more informed and current standpoint they might be able to reform policies and implement new laws that can protect youths from living in domestically violent situations that are unhealthy and which can negatively impacts their lives and their decisions. A few days ago a mother of eight was charged for physically abusing her two year old son. The crime which was a continuous act was recorded by another family member and posted on Facebook and caused an uproar throughout the country. Justice have been served for
