This story takes place in a small town courthouse in the state of Minnesota where a middle-aged immigrant man named Miguel Cruz is being charged with property damage to a Walmart. Prosecuting Attorney: Paul Wheelman is a 48-year-old prosecuting attorney who has worked with the state for many years. He has seen his fair share of cases and successfully prosecutes 8 in 10 of them, on average. He is an older gentleman who is usually seen with a serious look on his face. Paul takes his job very seriously and is always professional, polite and composed. He has a wife and three children whom he provides for and that is what pushes him to work very hard. She had been given 2 DUIs and has to get a ride to work and home every night as well as take mandated drug tests whenever it is asked of her by the county. Witness 2: Katherine Berg, works as a cleaning lady to provide for her 2 children and 1 adult son who also lives with her. When she was a teenager she used to think she’d be free and wild forever.. then she had her first kid and her life changed forever. She is a regular customer at Walmart as it is the only grocery store near where she lives. She had been in the parking lot at Walmart, putting her groceries in her car, when the crime supposedly took place. Bailiff: 52-year-old Nathan Johnson is the county sheriff. He has known Mr. Cruz for a while as Mr. Cruz’s daughter babysits Nathan’s son. Nathan has a wife and 3 kids, his youngest is 7 and his oldest children are off to college at the ages of 20 and 25. Nathan has been working as county sheriff for nearly 30 years and has never once heard a complaint about Mr. Cruz. He was surprised when he was called to court for a case involving Mr. Cruz. The Bailiff stands and turns to the court. Bailiff: “All Rise for the Honorable Judge
