Prostitution is a practice of sexual exchanges for a profit. It is an act performed by two people. During the Victorian period, the role of women and men started to be defined specifically. Three major reasons why women become prostitutes were to make a full time living, those who work to help their habits, and the ones who supported their families. Some women were forced into prostitution. Families would give their young daughters to a Madame in hopes of her helping them out with money. Women who weren’t married would turn to the streets and sell their body in order to survive. Once they enter into this profession, they were not allowed out. Younger people are starting to join in. Society is starting to accept it more than people in the Victorian times. Prostitutes have different nicknames such as slut, hooker, and tricks. Most are not insulted by the names, and sometimes they refer to themselves as it. There are prostitutes have their own personal body guards. They look out for them and make sure they are not in danger. The majority of them have pimps who sometimes force them to sell their body. Some are the prostitute’s child’s father, someone who introduced them into prostitution, and can even be a family member. The result of prostitution can be ending up pregnant, having stds, or getting killed by a client or even their own pimp. Rape can happen to anyone and even prostitutes. Rape should be taken seriously because it can be very damaging to one’s body. Prostitution is illegal in all states except for certain areas in Nevada. Perhaps if prostitution was legal in all states, or some, then maybe we can control some of the risks of getting sexually transmitted diseases. Prostitutes would be required to get a regular checkup at least every two weeks. It would be regulated and controlled by the government for people’s safety. It could be allowed only in a licensed building. Therefore, instead of trying to hide in alleys they would be in a surveillance area so they would feel much safer. We can say that it’s not a real job, but in reality some prostitutes are making more than most of us on a daily basis. Judging them is not going to stop them from doing what they like to do or what they have grown into liking. There are many models that get paid top money to get naked. They are similar to prostitutes. Those who just will never accept prostitutes as a normal person has the right to voice their opinions. However, sex sells and the sex industry will always be profitable. The benefit of the society and prostitutes is not easy to ignore. Women are still being degraded and men are still being lifted. It takes two people to have sex; therefore both should be accounted for and not only one. The history of prostitution has changed over the centuries. In the next decade, prostitution perhaps maybe legal. This debate of legalizing prostitution is still an ongoing process. The society has to overlook the negatives and find the positives on prostitution. Not everyone is brought up the same way. Everyone wants to be treated equally, and not looked at the wrong way because the decision’s they make. We can reshape prostitution by protecting them, showing them that we care, and acknowledging them
