According to the argument, the author claims that the Prunty County should emulate Butler County to improve the conditions of the road to reduce the traffic addident rate. Unfortunately, the author has to further the argument with addithional evidence before she can legitimately come to the conclusion. To begin with, although the number of accidents has not decreased, it doesn 't necessarily mean that to lower the speed limitation from 55 to 45 miles per hour is of no use at all. Clearly, the author assumes that the number of accidents is equal to the degree of highway safety. However, how severe are these accidents are not mentioned. It is highly likely that there are always people died before, but after the action, only a few people get slight injury. What 's more, the degree of the actual speed above 45 miles per hour is not provided, either. May people used to drive 60 miles per hour, but now, the number declines to 50. So, the speed limitation is effective at this point. Absent substantaiting evidence to rule out these possibilities, the author cannot convince me the conclusion is true. Aother thing that may undermine the reliability of the conclusion is unveiled, that is the author claims that there are 25 percent fewer reported accidents in Butler County because Butler County completed some actions five years ago: increasing lane widths, …show more content…
The author relied her conclusion on the similarity between Butler and Prunty. However, it is possible that the road in Prunty is wide enough and the visibility ar intersections is high enough in Prunty. In fact, the drunk driving is the reason to the poor highway safety condition. Further illustrations of what cause the high accident rate should be furnished, or the advice can merely remain less
