This improves the overall well-being of the patient and helps build solid relationships with the patient, their family members, and colleagues. As Lee (2021) puts it, effective communication within healthcare settings can directly or indirectly impact the care provided and the relationships built. There are four main communication styles with health professionals. Verbal communication - Effective communication in healthcare involves verbal interaction between patients and healthcare professionals, where both parties exchange information clearly and concisely. Non-verbal communication: Nonverbal communication plays a crucial role in healthcare settings, where healthcare providers need to understand their patients' emotions and respond accordingly. These nonverbal cues include body posture, facial expressions, eye contact, and tone of voice. These cues help healthcare providers establish better rapport and trust with their patients, improving treatment outcomes. For instance, a provider who maintains eye contact with patients while listening to their concerns can convey empathy and interest in their well-being. Similarly, a healthcare professional with an open and relaxed posture can help patients feel more comfortable during the consultation.
