The psychodynamic theory emphasizes the unconscious psychological procedure and suggests that personalities are shaped by unconscious motives and childhood experiences. The approach aims to expose the psychological forces that influence personality and functioning. Sigmund Freud (1900) was the first to propose the psychoanalytical theory, which suggested that the sex, anxiety reduction and aggression are motives found in every individuals psychological being. Id is the segment of the brain which our subconscious, pleasure seeking moralities exist in, it is found to be present at birth. It contains primitive impulses such as thirst, hunger and urges. It is considered the most significant segment as an infant, an individual’s elementary needs need to be met which the Id can achieve. The ego component of the brain ascends from id during the first two to three years of development during childhood. The ego is an individual’s conscious thoughts and balances one’s impulses. The ego harmoniously balances the needs of Id while operating as a realism principle. Arising from the ego during the three to five years of childhood development, the superego is the component of the brain which controls one’s social conscience, it also contains the individual’s internalisation of their guardians’ principles.
