Disorders Affecting the Inmate
Based on the symptoms which the inmate is displaying in this scenario there could be several different reasons for his erratic behavior. It is possible that the inmate is suffering from psychosis and delusions which displayed after receiving a life sentence based on committing an honor killing of his daughter. These symptoms could also be a form of borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia, or paranoid disorder. Psychosis is when a person has an inability in telling the difference between fiction and reality. This disorder also limits the person’s ability to correctly identify fictional events from actual events. Delusions is when a person has an impression or idiosyncratic belief which is firmly maintained even when they are contradicted by what is accepted as rational argument or reality. The inmate’s delusions have been taking place after terror plots have been published in the newspaper which could be connected to trauma in his past which triggers his response of thinking there are …show more content…

The first referral option would be to speak with a psychiatrist which would allow the inmate to utilize several forms of behavioral therapy and talking about his thoughts in an effort to differentiate between reality and fantasy. The second referral option would be for the inmate to be placed on pharmaceutical medications which would help regulate his delusions. The type of pharmaceutical medications which would be most effective for these disorders would be a mood stabilizer or an anti-psychotic medication. Also, it is important that the cause of his trigger should be removed in order for him to stabilize. This would include the removal of all newspaper articles or even watching the news station. The last referral option for the inmate would be some form of social support such as group therapy in order to give the inmate a chance to relate to other
