Psychological Effects of Murder
Once an individual has acted irrationally, opposite from one’s own preferences and beliefs, the individual will have a difficult time fitting into the society that they once associated themselves with. They will begin to feel isolated from their close friends and family members. This is commonly seen among criminals who do not medically suffer from a mental disorder, and have had time to reflect on their actions while incarcerated. Individuals who have committed first degree murder also have a difficult time controlling their inner thoughts and expressing their own emotions. This greatly impacts their day to day lives and often makes it unbearable for them to suppress their unconscious thoughts. Problems such as these can be seen from patients who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. These individuals have gone through a traumatic experience that has shaped their lives from that point forward. They are unable to regain self-control and suppress their unconscious thoughts. They begin to become aware of, and are unable to ignore the sudden feelings that are intensifying at the moment. After committing first degree murder, they become, “conscious of a terrible inner turmoil” (Dostoyevsky 93). Individuals who have either committed murder in the past or have had thoughts of taking another person’s life begin to face problems such as paranoia. They begin to suffer from tremendous amounts of terror because of the act that they committed. They feel paranoid for many reasons, because their unconscious thoughts begin to surface and make their way to the conscious mind. This begins to mess with the murder’s thoughts and drive them to act
