Technology is an essential part of the lives of people living in this world today. It is everywhere, it is part of the world and it has greatly changed the lifestyle of many. Technology advances as time moves on, and it always will. Technology has created a new form of dependence (Tyler, 2014) People get attached to technology. Smart phones and computers are two examples of technology that most people use on a daily basis, people rely on these. Technology becomes an addiction when a person spends too much time using it and it starts to take away precious time that should be spent socializing with friends or family, relaxing, or doing a hobby ("Technology: The New Addiction?," 2014). Technology addiction involves physical effects such as carapal tunnel syndrome, strained eyes, back aches, irregular sleep patterns and pronounced weight gain or weight loss ("Internet and Computer Addiction," n.d) However, the psychological effects of technology addiction that a person may develop is more serious (Tyler, 2014). There are indicators or symptoms that can be recognized when usage of technology becomes an outright addiction. A person will feel anxious or restless whenever his/her smart phone is not with him/her and it comes natural like breathing air for a person to check and recheck his/her smart phone from time to time (Archer, 2013). Also, a person tends to neglect his/her family and friends and would rather spend more time with a device and a person would have a hard time finishing a task ("Internet and Computer Addiction," n.d).
