Abortion is a very sensitive issue. Some people think it is harmless and easy to do, but really it is not. They think that abortion procedures are safe and do not cause health issues, but statistics show that many women go through depression, stress, and grief. Pregnant Women go through a lot after aborting. They are usually not well informed on what they will feel or think after an abortion, they often make it a quick decision without thinking about the consequences. Pre-abortion counseling would make a big difference and less abortions would occur. If more women have pre-abortion counseling they would not be suffering from emotional and psychological issues. After an abortion, women usually experience depression, decreased self-esteem, crying, and a deep feeling of sadness. After an abortion, women are put to long-term suffering because medical professionals do not give them knowledge about post-abortion grief. When women have an abortion they are usually not well informed of the psychological problems they will be facing, "Women felt cheated that abortion was presented to them as something quick and easy, when the reality was very different"(Herald 10). The American Psychological Association has revealed that women are more likely to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. Sixty-five percent of American women experience many symptoms of PTSD, over fourteen percent reported all symptoms necessary to be diagnosed with abortion induced PTSD (Rue, el al). The pregnancy itself may be a source stress in the first place; it may have been an unwanted pregnancy or linked with other problems.
