Starbucks is a familiar place for me to meet and work on projects. Several of us were working on a project of Starbucks this week. During the conversation tightness in my back and stomach showed up. The conversation seemed be pulling well yet here were these physical symptoms. Sitting back in the chair, words came to my mind that I expressed. These words were fear. Recognizing that it was fear that was showing up in my body I openly talked about my fear of failing. Sitting still and closing my eyes, I allowed the emotion to flow over me. It was very strong. Breathing deep than letting it subside the fear moved through me as I was accepting the new truth in the moment. All of these firings fallen to the idea of compensation: striving for recognition and superiority. This is part of Adlers developmental model. Adler later added this to his idea of social acceptance. There are three concepts in Adler’s theory of psychological well being: social contact, choice of occupation, and love & marriage. Self-determination in choosing my occupation was part of my social contact as a child. The lack of understanding emotional intelligence contributed to those firings. One part of emotional intelligence is being able to read the other person's reaction in the conversation. Daniel Goleman states that “emotional self-awareness is the building block of the next fundamental emotional intelligence: being able to shake off a bad mood” Moods, even though we have choices, are often part of a state of mind that is developed during social interaction with the world we grew up in. Pastors kids are suppose to be good kids and be
