The intellectual interests I developed have primarily been focused on the study of medicine, however there are various other subjects that have recently taken over my curiosity. Most are linked to my studies in the classroom which have evolved into passions outside of school. Since Latin I freshman year, the Classics have caught my fascination. From the philosophers of Rome to the architecture of ancient Greece, the importance of classical learning on our modern society is continuously interesting to me. Not to mention the Latin language and its influence on modern English. The Classics opened up both literature and the arts for the world, leaving an invaluable legacy. Just last summer, the Odyssey and the Iliad accompanied my sunglasses and tanning lotion to the beach. Additionally, I had the opportunity to travel to Italy multiple times which brought my interest in Roman society to another level. Even in English class, I choose to write a paper on dream psychology, which made the actual research a pleasure since learning about the topic was fascinating. Moreover, I wrote a creative piece on a girl with Dissociative Identity Disorder, which actually won a regional writing award. By bringing my interests into my academic life, I have furthered my own studies and advanced my talents in the classroom. Even at work, I practice my own psychoanalytic skills with costumers to gauge certain personality types, accessing my approach to a situation or conversation. While my boss may not approve, I have always found it helpful to be able to read an individual using psychology and even sociology. This curiosity has enabled me to become a better manager by furthering my social abilities and communication
