The Bachelor of Health Sciences that I will receive from the University of Florida in the near future has greatly impacted my life in ways that I could have never imagined. One of the fundamental ways in which this degree has altered my life was its ability to influence my career choice. Before beginning the latter half of my degree, I was stubbornly dedicated to getting into medical school and working towards becoming a physician. And then classes such as public health concepts, U.S. healthcare system, ethical and legal issues in healthcare, and survey of diseases and disability piqued my interest, unlike any classes that I had taken prior to fulfill my medical school requirements. Without this foundation, I would have never discovered that a career in public health and health policy was a possibility for me. Nevertheless, the chance to pursue a career out of passion rather than monetary purposes. I am confident that the NYU Master of Public Health program will expand upon this foundation and give me a better understanding of public health and only confirm my desire to pursue success in this field. The lack of hands-on or practical experience within the field of public health is a significant weakness that I hold. The extent to which I hold any experience is my volunteer work within UF Health Shands. The time I spent in different areas within the hospital gave me a preview of how the healthcare system works in the U.S. but never provided a great experience to learn about or experience other aspects of public health. However, I am positive that the NYU Master of Public Health program will provide me with a myriad of options for practical experience in the field. The location of NYU alone allows for great opportunities in this area such as possibly working with the United Nations, whose headquarters sit in New York City. I want to be able to conduct research or receive data from various reliable sources and use this information to help create, or improve current, policies. I want to work with members of Congress and the federal government to improve the healthcare system within this country so that each person is able to receive care no matter the cost or their current access. The Master of Public Health program with a concentration in health policy and management at NYU will prepare me to face the challenges that are associated with this career goal, such as providing practical experience in the field and providing an education that is unlike other universities in the nation. After all, the holistic view of the public health courses at NYU will better equip me to make system-wide changes in healthcare, and not in only one area or concentration; a fundamental goal of
