We all know puppies are cute, sweet, adorable, precious and a whole lot of other warming adjectives.
But when deciding to go out and get yourself a puppy, there are many factors to be considered beyond the first thought of, puppies are cute, I want one.
All to often, people make the mistake of treating a puppy purchase as an impulse buy rather than making a long-term educated decision.
To know if bringing home a puppy is right for you, there are some very basic questions that should be asked and answered.

Do I have the time to raise and care for a puppy?
This should be answered by taking a look at your pre-existing schedule.
Is there any room in there for what it's going to take to raise a puppy?

If you didn't already know it, puppies like to chew on things and they don't just magically know the difference between a puppy chew toy and your shoes.
Puppies will chew on just about anything so it will take some time correcting unwanted behavior.
Some puppies will be faster learners than others but if you don't take the time to correct unwanted behaviors in the puppy months; the older they get, the more difficult it will be.
So, teaching a puppy what they can and can't do will definitely take up some of your time.
And of course, you will have to take the time to feed and water your puppy along with bathing, grooming, and vet care. Yes, all of this is pretty much common sense yet people still jump the gun and pull the trigger on a puppy purchase without giving it much relevant thought and consideration.

Just because you can find a free puppy does not necessarily mean you should get one.
Puppy food, toys, food bowls and vet care aren't free and the cost can add up.
...and, here comes some more common sense.
The bigger the dog, the more food it's going to eat and more food means more money out of your pocket.
You don't have to be rich by no means in order to be a pet owner but you should be financially stable enough to properly care for yourself before buying a new puppy or any pet for that matter.
Pet insurance can be a life-saver literally and financially and should be considered due to the fact that accidents happen, sometimes animals get sick, and sometimes dogs bite.
Will you ever need a pet-sitter because that's another thing that may need to be budgeted in?
Flea and tick medicine are common purchases of dog and puppy owners as well.
A few dollars here and a few dollars there start to add up over time.
