Where do the adorable puppies down at the pet store come from? They paw at people walking by. One person instantly falls in love with them, but no one knows about their past when they lived in puppy mills. What are puppy mills? Puppy mills are establishments that breed puppies for sale, typically on an intensive basis, and in conditions regarded as inhumane. Many anti-cruelty organizations, such as the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), define them as places where profit is given priority over the well being of the dogs. Puppy mills are a controversial issue that must be outlawed everywhere in the United States for its merciless acts towards dogs. These bitter breeding places should be made illegal for three major reasons. First, these puppies are not given an adequate amount of care. They eventually contract many diseases which are left untreated. Second, many analysis and statistics show that they are located everywhere in an immense amount. According to http://www.petful.com/, among the 50 states, only 26 states have laws regulating commercial kennels. The other 24 states have no laws that puppy mills have to follow. Also, these puppies overcrowd our shelters, causing us to kill more animals in a less amount of time. Lastly, for our satisfaction in our own personal content of financial stability we overlook the mistreatment of animals. There are better ways to make money and create jobs without hurting others.
