The most important themes in literature are sometimes developed in scenes in which a death or deaths take place, which helps to illuminate the meaning of the book. A recurring vision of Matt killing Ali, in the book “Purple Heart” by Patricia McCormick, sends Matt through a journey to find out what actually happened. Ali’s death helps Matt to fight Traumatic Brain injury, find how dangerous war can be, and realize the things that are important. Matt wakes up in an army medic camp to learn he has received a Purple Heart. The problem is that Matt can not remember anything that happened during the war. The only constant image he has is of Ali, a local boy, being shot and flying up in the air. Matt had become friends with Ali and is concerned
