Papa was the father of the main character Francisco in the novel The Circuit. To begin with, Papa was brave, worried and hopeful. For instance, Papa found a way to bypass the barbed wire. “According to Papa this was la Frontera” (Jimenez 4). Papa did not fear crossing the border to California.
The book had two very significant parts. In chapter six Papa returns to his family but in chapters seven through ten the author’s impression of Papa’s character changed. In the book “ Johnny Tremain” written by Esther Forbes, the theme pride really stands out in the beginning of the book. In this book, it repeatedly shows pride as a bad thing. Pride is one of the few things in the world that isn’t just good or evil. Pride is only evil if you let it become more important than everything else. Cheerful Beings in a World of Darkness Stephen, Matsu, and Sachi all have suffering in a world of hate, violence, and broken hearts thus forming a bond. Stephen even becomes “the musuko we lost so many years ago” (205). This bond is shown throughout the novel The Samurai’s Garden, by Gail Tsukiyama. It is a realistic fiction novel. The pressures and suffering vary between for example Sachi has massive pressure to honor her family by killing herself due to contracting leprosy.

Clover is a short story based upon the life of a renovating teacher and his students. Starting off, the passage shows Graham as a considerate teacher, with a hardworking attitude. As the passage carries on, the reader gets more of a look at his students, which are a charming and clever group of young girls. The reader also gets a look into the renovations that Graham had to do, the countless hours he spent on the house. Grahams seems to be a very considerate teacher, showing a lot of care towards his students, as well as the constant pushing and nudging of a good teacher.

Purple Hibiscus, written by Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie, is a novel set in post-colonial Nigeria where the protagonist, 15-year-old Kambili struggles growing up torn between two contrasting beliefs; Igbo traditionalism and western Catholicism. Religion as many believe is the hope in a power greater than ones self. It is also a means of worship, moreover as means of people uniting together as one and believing in one God. Religion is a very important aspect and can certainly impact and influence a person’s mentality. Adichie uses two conflicting religions to show the development of Kambili’s character and maturity, as well as explore the tension that is forced unto the her throughout the novel.
