Purple Mattress Purple Company overview Two engineer brothers Tony and Terry Pearce started comfort materials in the early 1990’s by creating Floam, which was used in making cushions for wheelchairs and other medical equipment. From there on, the Pearce brothers started Purple to be used a new hyper-elastic polymer in mattresses. Since then Purple has been one of the fastest growing companies in the mattress industry. Layers of purple mattress Cover – The cover is a mixture of Polyester, Viscose and Lycra. It has a soft, breathable material that is very thin to allow airflow into the mattress. Lycra is a stretchable material, mostly, found in athletic clothing, and helps with temperature differentiation by wiping moisture away from the body. …show more content…

The grid structure creates columns of polymer that are supportive until a certain threshold of pressure is reached. Once that threshold is reached, the column releases to allow that area to sink in, providing pressure relief. The weight is then distributed across the grid. This formation also creates air pockets in the comfort layer of the mattress to help defend against overheating while sleeping. Transition Layer – The middle layer of the Purple is 3.25 inches of poly foam with a 1.8 lb density and acts to provide some compression support for the mattress. Base – The base of the mattress is 4 inches of poly foam with a 2 lb density. This firm layer acts as the foundational support of the mattress and gives the structure its shape. The Purple Mattress is made out of Hyper-Elastic Polymers and polyurethane foam. We knit fabric for the cover instead of harsh chemicals. The Hyper-Elastic Polymer is a mineral oil based, food grade material and it is 100% non-toxic. The foams have been approved and certified by the non-profit organization CertiPUR-US. We also have the lowest toxicity level in our foam compared to the all memory foam competitors
