Teaching Philosophy
Purpose of Teaching To me, education is one of the most valuable resources an individual can obtain throughout their lifetime. The opportunity of receiving a well rounded education based on high expectations and challenging materials that allows individuals to develop their own thinking processes is one that should be available to every individual. In my experience, it is essential that students be an active learner and participant in the classroom.
As a teacher, I feel that students should be working toward independent actions and collaboration between their peers when engaging in the classroom. The ability to work through a project as the teacher guides the students allows them to build their critical and creative thinking. As a teacher, it is important to share a variety of different views and opinions regarding the concepts being taught in classroom. This allows students to develop their own opinions based on their own experiences, along with numerous other sources of information. Furthermore, it is important that when presenting these concepts the teachers are presenting them in various different methods or styles allowing them to reach every student no matter their learning styles, and based on the concept of the multiple intelligences. I feel that an effective teacher is one that creates an inclusive learning environment, sharing different cultures and viewpoints, and connecting to each the individual students in the classroom. This can be done in a positive and respectful way that shows that learning is continuous and no one method is better than the other.
