Research Paper When it comes to pursuing a career in sports management, being a coach for a professional and collegiate football teams is a good interest. Coaching builds character and leaves a positive outlook for players all around. To be a coach in the NFL and in the NCAA climbing up the leader boards is a big challenge. Starting as a graduate assistant at a well-organized college and progressing to the next level of competition. Sometimes when trying to get to the next level of competition knowing, the right people can get people to places they want to be. Internships and volunteering with respective teams and organizations can help boost confidence towards getting a job.

There are numerous degrees that can be obtained in order to be a coach. NFL coaches must have at least a bachelor's degree in physical education, sports medicine, sports management or physiology (HowStuffWorks.com) . There are technically no formal postsecondary education requirements for football coaches, and in some cases experience in the sport may be enough. After completing college coaches will be able to start their profession as a graduate assistant at the school that they are attending. The coaches with the best records and the most experience tend to make the most money, not only in salary but also in endorsement deals. A 2009 study by USA Today showed that at least 25 head coaches out of approximately 120 NCAA Division I coaches made more than $2 million per season (Thyberg) . Traditionally the salaries of a college coaches and NFL coaches are only released when a coach is hired and are pretty guarded from public knowledge. However, these numbers are sometimes released in instances, such as when the highest paid coaches make national lists such as Forbes' highest paid. Coaches like Sean Payton and Bill Belichick are the highest paid in the NFL because they have had Super Bowl winning programs. NFL coach earnings are based on contracts that can be signed for multi-year spans. Professional Sports Representation President and founder Bob LaMonte, who represents eight different coaches, told Sports Business Daily that the average is $3.25 million annually for a head coach. The highest coaching salaries are reserved for head coaches with high winning percentages (Alley)
