There are two things about me: 1. I have always been in the healthcare field 2. I have always been intrigued with teaching. In 1997 I became a History Major at Ohio State University with the intention of being a High School Teacher and for two years I worked towards that goal until life circumstances forced me to put that goal on hold. Several years ago I worked as a Phlebotomy Instructor at a vocational training school in Ft. Myers, Florida and I fell in love with teaching validating what I was working towards at Ohio State. Around this time I decided to return to school, while looking at several degrees at Florida Gulf Coast University related to healthcare I came across the Community Health degree, after reading the description of the program “The Bachelor of Science in Community Health degree is designed to prepare students for various careers in servicing the health and wellness needs of individuals, groups and …show more content…
A healthy community, as described by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (2001, p. 1), is “one that embraces the belief that health is more than merely an absence of disease; a healthy community includes those elements that enable people to maintain a high quality of life and productivity. The Bachelor of Science in Community Health's curriculum prepares graduates of this program for multiple paths: graduate study in Community Health occupational therapy, physical therapy, public health and other health and allied health related programs, in addition to preparation for employment as a health educator or other community health professional”.
