Learning has never been easy for me ever since I was a child. In elementary school, I was labeled as the student who tried her best, but never hard enough. In middle school, I got a D in Algebra. I was relieved since it was still ‘passing’ and my grade truly reflected the amount I learned during the class compared to my classmates. In high school, I avoided taking honors and AP courses in the beginning since I could not catch up with the rest of the class. Now, as a proud student at George Mason University, I have been honored to receive the Costello Dean’s list award consistently since 2021, now a senior graduating in the Spring of 2025 while pursuing the BAM program to earn a Master’s degree in Human Resources and Human Capital. Leila Austin, the first professor I met at George Mason University. When I first joined the program in my freshman year, I had the honor of working with Dr. Austin, the first professor who truly took an interest in my work and my mental health as a student. I had the pleasure of learning from her, seeking out advice, and viewing her as one of the first teachers in my life who I felt as though truly helped me study and understand global and sustainable business practices while making learning enjoyable. As I continued on as a business analytics major, I realized I truly was not interested or motivated to properly learn the work going into being a business analytics major; I was motivated to pass. I did not realize this was a problem I had when I would leave work all the way up until the weekend my assignments were due until I took MGMT303 for the first time. While cramming for ACCT203 and motivating myself to ‘just get a C,’ I was excited to learn in my MGMT303 class and understand the basic concepts of management. Cindy Parker where I found my true passion in working in the Human Resources industry. Since then, I have found my own intrinsic motivation to pursue a master’s degree at George Mason University for the Fall of 2025 in Human Capital and Human Resources to achieve my dream of working for Chanel, Dior, and/or Louis Vitton. It has always been a dream of mine to incorporate fashion and business together, but to achieve this dream, I need to strive for excellence. My mother and father are my source of motivation because my father comes from a poor, tiny village in Rawalpindi, Pakistan and my mother comes from a poor family in Karachi, Pakistan.
