When watching movies or reading books, you may notice a pattern or similarity in the stories. This is called an archetype. The hero’s journey is one example. Authors have different ways of expressing their thoughts in their hero’s journey. The Hobbit is about the journey of Bilbo Baggins and 13 dwarves who journey to get their treasure back.
Odysseus did not tell the full truth to his men, he slept with the goddesses and he was impatient. If Odysseus would’ve told the truth and done what the gods told him to do, he would’ve gotten to Ithaca faster. Based on the story and the facts, Odysseus was prideful, unloyal and irresponsible, therefore, I deem that Odysseus is not an archetype hero. Odysseus was prideful. He thought that he could beat anyone who came up on his path.
Another archetype that shows up frequently in the novel is the martyr. The archetype can be found due to the fact she “gives all that she has for those around her” (“What Is the Martyr Archetype? (Characteristics + Examples).” ) when she decided to sign up for the races. Even after being told by Peg that “People die” (Stiefvater 65) during the races Puck still decides to sign up for the races, putting her life on the line to save her family.
Compare and Contrast Essay The structure of the archetypal story has been used since the beginning of civilizations. Archetypes are stories that use characters that are repeated throughout many cultures (Rice). The oldest example of an archetype is The Epic of Gilgamesh.
The first time I read The Death of John, I immediately recognized there were many archetypes within the words of the short story. An archetype is a typical character, an action or a situation that seems to represent such universal patterns of human nature. However, the short story does not limit itself to only one of these. The story begins with a conversation between a doctor and a nurse in an Army hospital.
Archetypes are present throughout every piece of literature. Archetypes are common recurring symbols or character traits that help readers better connect with the story and characters. Certain archetypes are crucial for helping the hero complete their hero’s journey. The Life of Pi by Yann Martel, Mulan by Barry Cook and Tony Bandcoff, and Aladdin by Roger Allens all show that the companion and mentor archetypes are two of the most important archetypes for helping the hero throughout the hero’s journey.

The myth of Pyramus and Thisbe is a great example of the character archetype “The star-crossed lovers” because it describes a love affair that was disapproved of from the start and ended tragically. Pyramus and Thisbe being kept apart snuck away to meet each other at the white mulberry tree. The bloody lion (fate) stepped into the story by scaring away Thisbe leaving nothing by her veil ( representing her presence) now bloody and torn for Pyramus to see. Believing she was murdered, he stabbed himself because he couldn’t bear to live without her. Thisbe not wanting to disappoint her lover came out of hiding only to see his corpse on the ground.
The Aeneas Archetype The long literary history of mankind is full of archetypes and motifs that span not only individual works of a single culture, but across works of many different cultures. One such an archetype is the ‘epic hero’, such as Aeneas from the Roman myth the Aeneid by Virgil. The epic hero archetype is that of a protagonist who best embodies the character traits of an ideal person. The definition of an epic hero fits Aeneas because he shares many of the characteristics typically given to an epic hero: bravery, courage, leadership, and confidence.
The two main qualities any archetypal hero must have is immeasurable strength and indomitable perseverance. Typically the most common Greek heroes are Heracles and Perseus. They were both sons of Zeus and immortalized their names through their strength. Heracles was the strongest of the Greek heroes and had the longest suffering, his name finally reaching Olympus after the Twelve Labors. Like Heracles, Perseus was a strong fighter and even beheaded Medusa to claim his fame.
Instead he copied paintings from several churches in Italy. Also, he meets various painters who influenced him to pursue his art education. His

Another example being portrayed by Demeter; even when there happens to no hope for her daughter Persephone, she never gives up on Persephone, or on the role of neutering her daughter through the tough times. The Mother Archetype shows through Greek Mythology which includes The Iliad, Edith Hamilton, and The Odyssey. In literature, an archetype can usually interpret as a normal, your everyday typical character. An archetype, also frequently identified as universal symbol.
An archetype is a pattern of behavior that can help us understand ourselves and others. To have a greater understanding of myself, I recognized the person archetype of a student within myself and the archetype of a journey throughout my four years in high school. These archetypes helped me throughout high school and helped me gain knowledge that I can apply throughout my life. My first archetype is one that many people experience within their life, a student. Everyone in their life has learned something either by learning from others or from themselves (Archetypes, Intellectual archetypes).
The Epic Hero of The Odyssey The Odyssey is a tale of a great hero trying to get home. An epic hero. An epic hero is a courageous and honorable person. Homer’s character Odysseus exemplifies this in many ways.
