Substance abuse addiction has been increased among parents and their young teenagers without any particular cause. Substance abuse has been persistent issue among parents and their teenagers. More than 10 % of young teens live in household whose parents suffer from substance addiction (Dawe and Harnett, 2007). Many children who suffer from substance abuse have reported to having a parent who engages in substance usage. Family functioning plays a huge role on teens, and their behavior. Teens whose parents engage in substance abuse, have higher chances of engaging in substance abuse as well. These families need clear interventions objected to enhance family functioning. This study collected important information that consisted of interviewing 12 parents who suffer substance abuse (Gullbrå, Smith-Sivertsen, Rortveit, Anderssen, & Hafting, 2016). This approach showed a high correlation among addicted parents and the impact it had on their teens. The impact showed that parents of teens who engaged in substance abuse explained a great significant to those teens who also suffered substance abuse. Since more teens and parents are suffering from addictions, it is crucial to see if there is a connection involved. Substance abuse plays a big role among different types of environments, and different families who live in these different environments. namely the family of origin. Substance abuse is known as the most popularly researched environment within families. There has been little research that identifies how codependency is more frequent within children of substance abusers
The purpose of this research problem identifies the fact that more teens are engaging in substance abuse. Therefore, there are unanswered questions on why teen addiction and parent addiction is increasing each year. It is important to know if substance abuse is increasing, because of parents influencing substance abuse in the homes of their children. According to this research problem, it is important to see if there is a correlation between parents who suffer from addiction and their teens. If parents who suffer addiction are more likely to have teens engage in substance abuse.
