There are two types of Quality Improvement Organizations (QIO) that work under the direction of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services in support of the QIO Program. The Quality Improvement Organization program collaborates with other national organizations and initiatives dedicated to improving patient safety and population health. Quality Improvement Organization’s (QIO) also work with federal, state, and local governments as well as private entities, and serve as critical resources for state Medicaid agencies. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) redesigned the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) program in 2014 in an effort to further enhance the quality of services for Medicare beneficiaries. Throughout the history of the Quality Improvement Organization Program, it has been instrumental in advancing national efforts to motivate providers in improving quality, and in measuring and improving outcomes of quality healthcare. Quality Improvement Organization’s work directly with health care providers; such as hospitals, physicians, nursing homes, and home health agencies. The Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) does this to ensure the most current, clinically proven techniques and practices are being put in place to deliver the safest and highest quality care. The Quality Improvement Organization’s (QIO) analyze data and patient records to identify areas for improvements in care, and ensure patients’ voices are being heard by addressing individual complaints and bringing their perspectives into the improvement process.
