Queen Elizabeth I, Queen of England became the queen in 1558. She had inherited the nation after the death of her half sister Mary I. After the death of Mary I the whole nation was torn by religion since Mary was Catholic and Elizabeth was Protestant, but she had also used some Catholic values and used symbols. Elizabeth I was the daughter of the King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, the king’s third wife, while Mary I was also the daughter of King Henry VIII, but daughter of Catherine Parr, King Henry VIII’s second wife. When Queen Elizabeth I took the throne and she was protestant, but also wanted to keep some of the Catholic beliefs and symbols that her sister had. She always embraced that she was Protestant, even though she did use Catholic symbols. She later on tried to develop a church that was Protestant, but also the church had many Catholic elements. Elizabeth I created the Elizabethan Religious Settlement when she had taken the throne. The Elizabethan Religious Settlement was a result of what she had created because of the divide between religions in England when her father Henry VIII was in charge along with Edward VI and her older sister Mary I who was Catholic. During Queen Elizabeth I’s reign she had decided to not be like other women who had taken the throne and she did not get married at all not even to a man from another royal family.
