Elizabeth the Queen, the Virgin, the Influential
Think of an important monarch from England. Many people will think of Queen Elizabeth the first of England. Queen Elizabeth was a very influential individual. She ruled with an iron fist and a loving heart for forty five years. Looking at her background, rise to power, influence on others, and her impact on the world, Queen Elizabeth was truly amazing.
BACKGROUND
Queen Elizabeth I of England was born September 7th, 1533 in Greenwich, England. She rose to power after her older sister, Queen Mary I’s, death in 1558. (Queen Elizabeth I, Bio.com) Queen Elizabeth then ruled for forty five years, this time being nicknamed the “Elizabethan Era or the Golden Age of Elizabeth” (Queen Elizabeth I, History.co.uk).

“In his play A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Shakespeare describes the Elizabethan relationship between state and subjects.” (Queen Elizabeth I - An Inspiration to Culture). Queen Elizabeth must have been really influential in order for the well-known poet and author, Shakespeare, to write something about her.
The Church. Queen Elizabeth also had a major influence upon the churches of England. Stated towards the beginning of this essay, the church of England was mentioned. Here, will be a more in-depth explanation of this. When Queen Elizabeth’s sister, Mary I, was the monarch of England, she made it so that the only religion was Roman Catholic. When Queen Mary I died and Queen Elizabeth I took the throne, she made it so Protestantism was, once again, allowed within the realms of England. Though, Queen Elizabeth did not wipe out the Roman Catholic Church.
She believed sincerely in her own faith, but she also believed in religious toleration, and that Catholics and Protestants were both part of the same faith.
