Mission Statement: The goal of Queens Community House is to dedicate itself to “the personal growth of the diverse people it serves and to the creation of self-reliant, open, responsible communities.” Introduction: Queens Community House is a non-profit organization located in New York City which focuses on advocating for the rights of immigrants and the LGBT community as well as helping children coming from low-income households. This philanthropic institution was founded in 1975 as a settlement house called Forest Hills Community House to resolve an issue that plagued this neighborhood and has grown significantly since its inception as they currently serve a myriad of other communities at 25 sites throughout Queens. They strive to change people's lives for the better and positively transform the neighborhoods in which they reside. This non-profit organization created two programs to provide aid to those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. The first one is called Generation Q which specifically targets young people under the age of 21 and offers them counseling and a number of activities that are educational, recreational, and social in nature. They also recently introduced sessions to this program where teens are able to discuss a multitude of topics such as ableism, classism, domestic violence, homophobia, media, sexism, and suicide prevention and how these problems affect the LGBTQ community.
