Mission Statement: The goal of Queens Community House is to dedicate itself to “the personal growth of the diverse people it serves and to the creation of self-reliant, open, responsible communities.” Introduction: Queens Community House is a non-profit organization located in New York City which focuses on advocating for the rights of immigrants and the LGBT community as well as helping children coming from low-income households. This philanthropic institution was founded in 1975 as a settlement house called Forest Hills Community House to resolve an issue that plagued this neighborhood and has grown significantly since its inception as they currently serve a myriad of other communities at 25 sites throughout Queens. They strive to change people's lives for the better and positively transform the neighborhoods in which they reside. This non-profit organization created two programs to provide aid to those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or queer. The first one is called Generation Q which specifically targets young people under the age of 21 and offers them counseling and a number of activities that are educational, recreational, and social in nature. They also recently introduced sessions to this program where teens are able to discuss a multitude of topics such as ableism, classism, domestic violence, homophobia, media, sexism, and suicide prevention and how these problems affect the LGBTQ community. Queens Community House's second program would be the Queens Center for Gay Seniors which is designed to cater to older LGBT people and provides them with classes, heath-related activities, field trips, game days, and so
